The Blundy Family Marine Science Internship is a highly competitive paid research opportunity that pairs recent undergraduates and postgraduates with researchers and educational experts at UC Santa Cruz, Moss Landing Marine Laboratory, and Stanford’s Hopkins Marine Station. This paid position is designed for under-represented minority undergraduates from across the country. Our next internship is with Sebastian Caamaño, a graduate student at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, on a project investigating foraging consistency in female northern elephant seals across their reproductive lifespans.
As an intern, you will:
- Organize and catalog stable isotope samples
- Learn about weigh and tin samples for analysis and the chemical cleaning process (performed by trained researchers)
- Assist with data entry, organization, and quality control
- As experience allows, learn to conduct basic data analysis in R
- Get the opportunity to participate in research discussions and build working relationships with researchers in multiple areas
